Alleyway art spruces up Downtown Pittsburgh

by

Downtown alleyways aren’t looking too much like alleyways, are they? The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership is working to enhance passages frequently traveled by pedestrians.

Garrison Canal,” installed in Garrison Place by artist Andrea Polli, is an imaginary underwater future world of big data. Visitors “swim” below a wave of thousands of shimmering lights that transform color and animate in response to real time changes in local weather conditions.

A large street mural is being painted on Strawberry Way by local artist Julie Mallis, entitled “Who Gets to Eat the Most Fruit?” The installation provides an opportunity for interactivity, engagement and beautification.
