What’s in a name? Our football history

by The 100 Companies

Other than Acrisure and the team, few Pittsburgh Steelers fans seem happy to have our football stadium renamed (goodbye, Heinz Field!).

Pittsburghers love history. Yet we forget: Over the years, names associated with the team included Hope-Harvey, The Majestic Radios, even The J.P. Rooneys.

It was another July, in 1933, when a name tied to the team took on special meaning, as it joined the NFL. Though originally called the Pirates, most agree that was the true beginning of the Steelers history. Doubtless, the name Acrisure isn’t the end.

That’s our story. What’s yours? Share by writing our editor.
