Not much has changed at Frankie’s Extra Long since the 1960s when sandwiches were 30 cents each (and you still get a bang for your buck). Sure, you can get a fancy frank up the block, but patrons love the old-school authenticity: The decor is spartan, the menu is sparse and grunge permeates the joint in a good way.
There’s hot sausage, kielbasa, meatballs and the signature foot-long on order, and the dog is served just right with a touch of char, salty crisp casing, toppings that don’t mask the meat and a slightly spicy drizzle of chili and cheese.
