While the summer sun and heat can be fun, it has proven to be dangerous. Studies show that seniors are more prone to heat stress and make up 36 percent of fatal heat stress-related cases.
PA Health & Wellness shares tips to enjoy the summer heat:
• Stay hydrated. Experts recommend drinking more water than usual, even if you are not thirsty, or snacking on watermelon, strawberries and other water-rich foods.
• Enjoy sitting outside? Wear loose, lightweight and light-colored clothing to help your body properly cool.
• Consult with your doctor about medicine that may affect fluid intake and hydration.
