Escape the sweltering city, explore sedimentary rock and search for historical ghost train tracks on the country’s longest suburban rail-trail, right outside your Pittsburgh backyard.
The Montour Trail main line extends 47 miles with branch routes increasing the length to over 60. Locals love the winding creek, wooded areas and wildflowers, and the beautifully maintained trail is wide and clean with many benches to stop for a breather.
The route is mostly flat and family-friendly as well as ADA accessible, and leashed pooches are welcome. Check out the Arrowhead Trail, which boasts plentiful shade from 500 trees along the 4-mile route.
