Hiking a trail worth the wet feet

by The 100 Companies

Thirty miles west of Pittsburgh in Raccoon Creek State Park, there’s a 1.2-mile loop to Frankfort Mineral Springs that’ll reward you with a 10-foot tall waterfall during the spring thaw.

The mainly flat and shady trail takes about 30 minutes and is ideal for families and kids (though not strollers given some mud due to the running stream). History lovers shouldn’t miss the ruins of the long-abandoned health spa where visitors once came in search of cures from the spring water.

The easiest trail access is from the parking area along Route 18, just south of the state park office.
