The original “Star Wars” film debuted in 1977 and the franchise’s eighth installment (nine if you count 2016’s “Rogue One”) proves the appetite for more adventure “in a galaxy far, far away” is as strong as ever.
Why is this series such a force to be reckoned with in 2018? Maybe it has to do with the inspiration creator George Lucas gleaned from mythologist Joseph Campbell’s outline of the hero’s journey and the enduring power of storytelling.
Lucas based “Star Wars” on Campbell’s work. The two met in 1984, outlined in a terrific two-part series online here and here.
