Election season is far longer than a season

Just under a year from now, a Democrat will accept their party’s nomination for president – then, it’s on to months more of campaigning in the general election. Sounds like a long time, right?

Today’s campaigns last nearly as long as a term in the House. Yes, it’s important that candidates connect with people everywhere, but voter fatigue is a real concern – problematic in a democracy.

Legally shortening campaigning season seems wise to many but has a major flaw. It potentially stems a full vetting of candidates in primary season, giving even more power to parties to pick their preferred nominees.
