Think your teen sleeps too much? For many, they might not be getting enough.
A local district recently decided to not push back its start time for high school from 7:25 a.m. to 8 a.m., citing “significant costs.” The evidence is clear, however, that most school-age children have short sleep duration, and the effects on a young brain can include mental and physical issues.
It will take more than an extra half-hour to turn around this trend – media and other distractions abound – but any extra sleeping time is worth the cost when health is at stake.
