Caitlyn Hunter, the inaugural Emerging Black Writer in Residence at Chatham University and a PhD candidate in English Literature at Duquesne University is launching her debut book, “Power in the Tongue,” on June 22 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Bloomfield’s White Whale Bookstore.
Hunter’s hybrid memoir follows the migration of her family from a plantation in Virginia to Pittsburgh. Weaving in stories of her own experience of being a Black woman in America, she merges tales of family and her ancestors with contemporary life lessons of struggle, survival and the search for self-confidence and belonging.
