Celebrate Pittsburgh’s Irish heritage all March

Pittsburgh hosts one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the U.S., but did you know the first parade took place in 1869?

This year’s parade begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 17. It will honor the late Dan Rooney, beloved Pittsburgh Steelers owner and former U.S. ambassador to Ireland.

Celebrate Pittsburgh’s Irish heritage all month at these events:

• Learn about Irish genealogy from experts at the Heinz History Center on March 4.

• Meet the Express Clydesdales on March 15-16.

• Enjoy a traditional Celtic dinner and music by the Ploughshare Poets on March 17.
