Blue-collar luxury: Union Station

There’s nothing like Union Station (or The Pennsylvanian – depends who you ask) in Pittsburgh. One of the city’s oldest stations, at its worst, required a $20 million restoration. In its current prime, Union Station is equal parts city-revered events venue, Pittsburgh landmark, upscale apartment building and bus station.

Don’t be fooled by its impressive credentials – the Union Station, despite its major architecture credentials, has a uniquely Pittsburgh blue-collar past.

Originally opened as a train station, it’s since evolved into a major transportation hub. It’s now the gateway between busy downtown streets and the Martin Luther King Jr. busway.
