Pittsburgh contributed in many ways to the eventual defeat of Germany and Japan in World War II, from industrial production to the thousands of men and women who served.
The war hit home 76 years ago today, with the December 7, 1941, Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.
Here are a few reminders of what the beginning of World War II meant in the ‘Burgh:
• Pittsburgh Post-Gazette page 1 reporting the attack.
• Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in Oakland had a great exhibit last year for the 75th anniversary (and the museum is very much worth visiting).
