A closer look at nonprofit diversity

Young professionals, women and minorities — these demographics have been lacking representation on nonprofit boards. 

Board diversity has been closely examined and numbers are only steadily growing in the past few years. According to a 2018 Nonprofit Board Diversity study, nonprofit boards skew toward certain groups — 83.1 percent of board members are 40 years old or older and 78.6 percent are white. 

Many nonprofits are looking for ways to recruit young and diverse talent. With a pandemic keeping in-person networking events on pause, now is the perfect time to consider joining a board if you fall into one of these groups.
