Reports of sexual harassment have flooded newsstands recently, causing lasting reputational damage. With public scrutiny significantly more intense, no member of an organization’s leadership team will be spared in the event of a scandal – especially its board.
Boards must revisit their policies to establish a crisis-based response:
• Organize an investigative team.
• Outline steps for dealing with allegations.
• Leverage team members to manage the message.
• Mitigate future risks with proactive actions.
Above all, board members should be prepared. Take time to review harassment policies on a regular basis so resources can be effectively mobilized in the event of a crisis.
