Fun fact: Pittsburgh’s National Aviary is the country’s largest aviary and the only one accorded honorary “national” status by Congress.
It holds more than just a title, though. You’ll find over 500 birds representing over 150 species from all corners of the globe inside its walk-through habitat, while daily open-air, free-flight shows see birds take to the sky above the aviary (and maybe farther).
If you prefer partaking to watching, there are numerous interactive encounters with animals of all kinds, including armadillos, flamingos and penguins. You can even prepare breakfast for a sloth while you’re at it.
