Reflect on heroes this Memorial Day

Many of us will celebrate with cookouts along with family and friends, but Memorial Day isn’t possible without those who can’t join the parties, the ones who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

If there’s a break from the burgers and barbecue, one or more of Pittsburgh’s numerous war memorials are worth a visit.

The World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War memorials are a short walk from each other on the North Shore, but most of our neighborhoods and surrounding communities have their own tributes to the fallen. Big or small, these monuments honor true heroes.
