Christmas tree shopping 101

by

It’s time for my favorite holiday tradition – selecting the perfect live Christmas tree. To make sure yours last through the holidays, follow these tips:

Species: Have children? Soft needles on pines or firs might be preferable over a spruce’s sharp needles.

Needles: Should stay on the tree when gently grabbing the inside of a branch and pulling outward.

Freshness: Trunk should be slightly sticky and fir needles should snap in half, while pine needles should bend, not break.

Measure: Before leaving home, measure ceiling and tree stand heights to ensure the tree’s not too tall to fit in the room.
