The Pittsburgh Pucas are keeping Ireland’s oldest sport alive. The team is part of the Pittsburgh Hurling Club and the Pittsburgh Hurling Development Initiative, a nonprofit dedicated to “introduce, develop and further the sport of hurling in Western Pennsylvania.”
The sport combines elements of field hockey, lacrosse, and soccer making it easy to pick up for people with previous athletic experience. The Pittsburgh Pucas, led by chairman Sean Stayduhar, is made up of co-ed players ranging in age from teenagers to adults.
The team competes against four teams within the Midwest division and competed in the semi-finals in San Francisco last year.
