You’ve probably heard of Amsterdam, but how about Amsterdam Island? Located in the South Indian Ocean and discovered in 1522 by the Dutch, it is one of the most remote places on earth. It was claimed by the French in 1843 and is now inhabited by 25 French climate scientists.

You can explore this hidden ecological paradise by way of Market Square. “The Other Side of the World” is an abstract artistic representation of Amsterdam Island that visitors can experience.

Why is this in Pittsburgh? Because Amsterdam Island is literally on the opposite side of the world. Learn more here.
