The movie “Fences” hit theaters around the country on December 6, 2016. As many know, the film is based on Pittsburgher August Wilson’s play of the same name.
Still upset that “Fences” didn’t win more Oscars? So are we. Here are a few honors Wilson did earn for his body of work:
• Wilson never graduated high school. But, his frequent use of the Carnegie Library prompted the library system to award him an honorary diploma.
• Wilson wrote “Fences” while living in St. Paul, Minnesota. When he won the Pulitzer Prize, St. Paul’s mayor designated May 27, 1987, August Wilson Day.
