In June 2018, Gov. Tom Wolf signed the “clean slate” bill into law, forcing businesses to exercise caution when using criminal records to make employment decisions.
Under the law, certain nonviolent offenders are able to seal their court records from public view if they have been free from conviction for 10 years.
According to a release from the governor’s office, the legislation does not allow for records sealing for more serious crimes, such as firearms charges, sexual offenses, murder and child endangerment, among other serious offenses.
