East Liberty: a Neighborhood Revitalized

by

As Pittsburgh’s economy shifted from industrial giant to a 21st-century technology and medical hub, one of the city’s largest East End neighborhoods has likewise transformed.

East Liberty, once devastated by divestment and blight, is now home to Google and a multitude of startup businesses. Thanks to a recent $150 million project that includes a new transit station along Pittsburgh’s East Busway, the neighborhood has become much more accessible.

The boutique Ace Hotel now anchors the hospitality industry in the neighborhood. The hotel also features Whitfield, an acclaimed dining spot and tavern – which, by the way, is open on Thanksgiving!
