Tips if you're cycling from Pittsburgh to D.C.

Believe it or not, bicycling 333 miles from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C., is pretty common. I, too, will embark on this journey Sept. 24.

The Adventure Cycling Association – a fantastic resource for cyclists – has designated the last weekend of September as National Bike Travel Weekend. As a bike touring newbie, I’ve received help from these resources:

TrailGuide.
Local bike shops (shoutouts to Thick Bikes, Trek Bicycle and REI).
Great Allegheny Passage (another shoutout to Doug Riegner).
• Great Allegheny Passage / C&O Canal Enthusiasts Facebook group.

Not feeling a 300-mile ride? Take your bicycle out on Bike Your Park Day on Sept. 26.
