On one fateful day in 2016, Pittsburgh traffic suffered a terrible tragedy, causing a mess that would ripple for 24 temper-inducing, detour-filled days – the Liberty Bridge caught on fire.
The span was repaired and rehabbed through the hard work of our city’s best and is now receiving kudos for its turnaround, recently being named a winner of the 2020 Prize Bridge Awards. It was recognized with the special award for resilience due to its “superior resilience of structural steel with a remarkable recovery from an accidental construction fire.”
The Andy Warhol Bridge also made the list, winning a rehab award.
