Recent estimates put the U.S. veteran population at around 20 million. The people who served in our armed forces are friends, family, strangers, acquaintances and, yes, co-workers.
As Veterans Day approaches on Nov. 11, workplaces may want to honor those who made sacrifices for our nation. Quick and easy methods might be recognition in newsletters or meetings, parties (who says no to cake?), or even offering them a day off.
Perhaps the best thing anyone can do is simply support them. Mental health issues and suicide rates are alarmingly high among veterans. Remember, too, the Veterans Crisis Line is 1-800-273-8255.
