Behind the screams at Kennywood’s Phantom Fright Nights

by

Now in its 17th year, Kennywood’s Phantom Fright Nights relies on over 250 makeup artists, costume designers and scary actors to make the month-long production possible.

Makeup Manager Chris Pope starts working as early as June to sculpt prosthetics, props and mechanical masks, all 100 percent handcrafted.

Careful thought and energy goes into transforming the West Mifflin park from our favorite summer memory to a disturbing nightmare. All 10,749 light bulbs are changed, and the park goes through 1,000 gallons of fog juice.

Looking for something more family-friendly? Visit Kennywood during weekend days for Happy Hauntings.
