Baked goods: Staples of the old and new Market Square

by
Pittsburgh's Market Square

If you love burnt almond torte and fresh bread, you’re in luck. Even though Mancini’s has left its Market Square location of almost 10 years, customers can still purchase Mancini’s famous bread in the expanded Prantl’s Bakery.

Baked goods and fresh foods have long been staples in historic Market Square, starting with the original Diamond Market at the turn of the 20th century.

The lively market in the center of the square sold goods from farmers, butchers, bakers and florists. Shoppers could even take a spin on the upstairs roller skating rink. The massive building was razed in 1961.
