HBD to the ‘Burgh, and a flood of memory

By now, Pittsburghers of Irish descent (plus many who aren’t) are thinking of libations and liberties.

We’ve got plenty of those highlighted in this issue. We also want to highlight a few other events that define Pittsburgh’s month of March:

• Start with the city’s “official” birthday, March 18, 1816, when Pittsburgh was incorporated. Visit this cool webpage on Pittsburgh 1816 from the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.

• Then pause to remember Pittsburgh’s worst flood, March 17-18 in 1936. Learn more from the Heinz History Center here.

So, take a minute to celebrate the good, mark the history and March on.
