Bloomfield’s Howlers will depart – and bloom again in East Liberty

Residents and musicians alike recently woke up to the dismal news that Howlers, one of Bloomfield’s last-remaining live music venues, would be closing in August.

Fortunately, it was quickly clarified that Howlers will instead be moving to East Liberty in September – but its relocation is nonetheless a shock to the Bloomfield community. In addition to the relocation, Howlers’ longtime booker Mary Jo Coll plans to retire before the move.

While venues like Brillobox and The Mr. Roboto Project hold steadfast in Bloomfield, Howlers’ departure feels like a crushing blow to the once-teeming nightlife and entertainment scene of the neighborhood.
