Pittsburgh Polyphony: String Machine gears up for sophomore effort

Started by David Beck as a solo project, Pittsburgh’s String Machine came together to emanate a beautiful mutation of indie-folk filled with vivid soul-searching and passionate instrumentation.

Now the musical breeding ground of seven talented musicians, the fusion of traditional instrumentation and gritty synthesizers on their debut album, “Threads from the Youth Fossil,” leaves hints of Iron & Wine and a turn-of-the-decade Bon Iver.

Their latest single, “Eight Legged Dog,” is the first off their sophomore album, “Death of the Neon,” due out Aug. 2.
