Demeatria Boccella: Powerhouse behind FashionAFRICANA

by
Demeatria Boccella

Demeatria Boccella has made an indelible mark on Pittsburgh’s arts and fashion scene.

From fashion shows to museum exhibitions, Demeatria Boccella is responsible for more Pittsburgh arts events than you can count.

Boccella founded FashionAFRICANA in 2001, an organization that produces African-inspired arts and fashion events. She is also the creative director of Rock Steelers Style and managing director of the Bill Nunn Theatre Outreach Project, flexing her skills in production and background in philanthropy.

We had a chance to sit down with Boccella last week to joke about leaving Pittsburgh, chat about her work and the Ruth Carter “Heroes & Sheroes” exhibit, which is at the Heinz History Center until Dec. 2.
