Growing up in rolling Washington County south of Pittsburgh, my dad, Frank, and his childhood pal, Albert Miller, knew Albert’s farm had really cool Native American arrowheads.
To them, they were curiosities. Today, we know the Miller farm as Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village – confirmed in 1976 as the oldest human habitation site in North America because of 19,000-year-old arrowheads.
When the sun graces Pittsburgh each June, I think of childhood dad and Albert, chucking priceless prehistoric arrows around the farm. Thankfully, Albert made sure enough of them and other artifacts survived for the rest of us.
