Where it’s spring that hopes eternal

In 1734, Alexander Pope wrote, “hope springs eternal.” That line has become the title of films, TV shows and pop songs – probably why Pope’s the second-most quoted poet in the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations.

In Pittsburgh, we flip that quote. After our typical winter, hopes rise with spring (check the great articles in this issue). Soon, tax day will be behind us, Easter will be upon us and hopes – well, they might be dashed a bit, but here, spring hopes eternal.
