The polio vaccine, the Ferris wheel, self-driving cars … Pittsburgh’s innovative, right? Well, yes … and no, according to a September Brookings Institution report.
Researchers examined Pittsburgh’s efforts to become a world-class innovation city and concluded there’s still work to do. With the right high-tech skills, driven by our robust higher education system and its research and development funding, and available capital we are on the right track.
One example of our progress is Peptilogics Inc., a biotech startup that recently received funding from PayPal founder Peter Thiel. Peptilogics is working to commercialize ways to combat drug-resistant bacteria.
